Providing Family Support

Providing Family SupportThe Family Enrichment Weekend provides support to the entire family. Families who have a child with autism often arrive at a Family Enrichment Weekend feeling overwhelmed with stress that permeates the entire family.   Because families who feel supported are better able to manage this stress, the Family Enrichment Weekend provides support for each family member: the parents, siblings, and the child with autism.  For 48 hours, they are immersed in an environment that meets all their needs and are surrounded by people who understand and enjoy their children. The Family Enrichment Weekend planning process includes an entire prevention plan that focuses on the behavioral needs of the children who will be attending. The staff knows the behaviors to expect and designs the activities to meet the needs of the children so there is no need to worry about disruptive behaviors.  In addition, there is a core of professionals who redirect and provide alternate activities to keep all children engaged. Families leave the Weekend feeling supported and confident that, as a family, they can work together to meet the needs of each family member. They leave knowing that they are not alone and certainly not unique – for they just spent a weekend with other families who have a child with autism.  This confidence is often a result of the information, support, and stress-free environment. And, they had a great time.
